2014 IDAHO ARTISTRY IN WOOD SHOW

The 2014 Idaho Artistry in Wood Show will be held Saturday, February 22 and Sunday, February 23 at the Boise Hotel and Conference Center, 3300 Vista Ave., Boise, Idaho.  Show hours on Saturday are 9 a.m.–5 p.m. and on Sunday, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.  The show provides the opportunity for artists working in wood and gourds to participate in judged competition and display their work to the public.  The event will also include demonstrations, sale of wood and gourd art objects and other activities.

The show takes place under the auspices of the Idaho Artistry in Wood Association, a cooperative venture formed in 2010 by the Idaho Woodcarvers Guild, the Treasure Valley Scrollers, the Southwest Idaho Woodturners Association, the Ada County Woodworkers and the Idaho Gourd Society.  The exhibition continues a longstanding Northwest cultural tradition that began more than thirty years ago.  No affiliation is required for participation.  The show will include woodcarving, woodturning, woodburning, scrolling, fine woodworking, marquetry, gourds and intarsia.   Tools and materials used in creating wood art and the work of local artists will also be available for sale at the show.

The Treasure Valley is home to several prominent artists whose work in wood, the region’s pre-eminent natural medium, has won prizes in national and world competitions.  These outstanding artists have inspired and taught many younger and less well-known practitioners to create works ranging from caricature carvings to beautiful furniture.  Some objects are utilitarian; others are created solely for their aesthetic value.  Hundreds of these works from the first creations of beginners to the products of professionals who earn their living from their art will be on display in the 2014 show.

Admission to the show is $4.  For youth 12 and under, the show is free.  The cost of entering work in the show is $3 per piece if registered in advance or $5 at registration, which will take place Friday, February 21, 1-6 p.m. at the conference center.  Full details, including discount coupons for admission and registration forms are available at the Boise Woodcraft store and on the following website: http://idahoartistryinwood.org
